The Hebrew ordering of the Old Testament doesn't look quite right?

We know...

In particular, Esther is in the wrong place, and Song of Songs and Ecclesiastes are transposed. This website was developed by building on other website design work. The only quick way to adapt this work to the purpose of Edible Words has this side effect.

The choices were:

  1. Only list the Old Testament in its English order
  2. Spend hours and hours recoding
  3. Offer the Hebrew ordering as well, but suffer a couple of misplacements in the Writings section

But well done for noticing! Just testing ;-)

What's the difference between "Old Testament" and "OT (Hebrew Order)"?

From the perspective of posting a meditation, there is no difference. If you have a meditation on Exodus 12, feel free to list it under "Old Testament | Pentateuch | Exodus" or under "OT (Hebrew Order) | Law | Exodus".

Whichever you chose, the meditation you create will be listed under both those sections. The Hebrew order of the Old Testament offers another way for readers to navigate the site. That is all!

I want to post a meditation, but it's not on a precise chapter and verse.

That doesn't matter. All meditations posted to this site should be meditations on Scripture, so that the Word of God can enrich and inform our celebration of Christ's sacraments. If you can't specify which book of the Bible (say, Numbers) your meditation is based upon, please be as specific as you can (say, Pentateuch, or Old Testament).

How is the content on this site categorised?

You've found the Frequently Asked Questions section of Edible Words then!

By way of introduction, there are a number of articles that go into the theology and thinking behind Edible Words.

Most of the site, though, comprises meditations posted by users of this website. Each meditation is flagged:

  • by Sacrament: Does it relate to Baptism or to the Lord's Supper?
  • by portion of Scripture: Which portion of Scripture is this a meditation on?

You can use that categorisation to navigate the web
